Marine Corps Drive (Route 1)
Marine Corps Drive (Route 1) is the island's main artery and carries the most traffic. During rush hours, congestion builds quickly between Hagåtña and Tamuning. Keep your distance, watch for sudden lane changes, and never let your fuel gauge drop below a quarter tank — running out of gas on Marine Corps Drive is both dangerous and entirely avoidable.
The Southern Back Roads
The back roads through the southern villages — Yona, Inarajan, Merizo — are scenic but narrow and winding. Cell service can be spotty in spots, so if you break down there, it's even more important to call for help early and stay with your vehicle. Route 3 North
Route 3 up north toward Dededo and Andersen Air Force Base sees high-speed traffic and frequent construction. Tire blowouts are common here, especially in the hot months when road temperatures soar.
